Preparations began in earnest for this year’s English Half Marathon as members of Warrington Running Club took on elements of the new course on Good Friday.
2015 will be a landmark year for the event with the Golden Gates, Bank Park, town centre, Bridge Street and the Halliwell Jones Stadium all incorporated into the route.
Many of the club’s runners were up bright and early, opting to run the additional miles from both the Seven Woods pub and Peace Centre, meaning that by the time the run had been completed, some members of the group had racked up an impressive 20 miles.
Not only was the run, thus useful for scoping out the English Half Marathon route but indeed for the much sooner ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon on April 19th.
Although conditions proved to be tricky, the hardy bunch completed the task in hand and were also treated to some light refreshments and easter eggs part way through the course.
The changes in the EHM route look likely to lead to quicker times for all concerned and with approximately six months to go, the hard work really will start now for many members of WRC ahead of their home town race.
